BMR is the amount of energy expended while being at rest. As we get older your BMR decreases. Hence our constant struggle with weight gain. Aerobic training such as running has little impact on our BMR, although it is excellent at burning calories. Weight training has a better impact at raising our BMR. Simply put: muscle is better at burning fat when you are at rest. Increasing muscle mass increases our BMR, muscle is gained by weight training.
